As a result of continued growth, Phoenix Glass has an excellent opportunity for a Construction, Junior Estimator to join our team.

Profile

We are looking for a bright and dedicated Junior Estimator to join our growing organization. As a junior estimator, you will be part of the pre-construction team, where you will learn the fundamentals of the estimating process and Phoenix Glass’ systems and methods.

The ideal candidate will be focused and results-driven, will have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and will be able to interact effectively with people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate various data - quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man hour, equipment, etc. for work items and elemental budget analysis

  • Reviewing and familiarize with design intent and construction methods

  • Reviewing drawings and specifications, and identifying areas of concern and importance

  • Reviewing all aspects of our trade division within various projects

  • Assist with obtaining scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Building trade relationships through budget and tender contacts

  • Learning to develop trade lists and identifying trade scopes required for each project

  • Assisting with sub-trade tender requests and material pricing requests

  • Researching historical and current market pricing for budget and tender updates

  • Assist in closing bids

  • Participate in developing project update and bid package estimate documents.

  • Maintain files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures.

    Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary, technical education or similar in a construction or industry-related program

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite

  • General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing required.

  • Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc.

  • Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.

  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.

  • Talk to, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.

  • Review material and labor requirements, for cost-effective

  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
